This DIY Patriotic Card Has a Grungy Twist You’ll Love

This DIY patriotic card isn’t your grandma’s red, white, and blue—unless your grandma’s into ink splatters, spritzers, and crafting like a rebel at midnight.

Tammy’s mission? Make a handmade card for her brother and sister-in-law. Her style? Full-on creative chaos, with a splash of patriotism and a whole lot of attitude.

This DIY Patriotic Card Uses the Scribble, Stamp, Repeat Method.

She started with the With You In Mind stamp set. The star image was perfect—bold, clean, and begging for some grunge.

Then Tammy reached for her Blueberry Bushel and Cherry Cobbler markers. Instead of carefully coloring the stamp, she went rogue and drew right on an acrylic block. Red stripes. Blue corner. No measuring. No regrets.

After that, she smooshed the block onto Basic White cardstock. Boom. Instant flag—no stencil required.

Let It Bleed (In the Cool Way)

Next, she spritzed the block with water. Just a bit. Enough to make the ink run in the most artistic way possible.

She stamped again. This second image gave her a dreamy, washed-out version of the first flag. It looked vintage and artsy—like it had been through a BBQ, a parade, and maybe a small revolution.

USA, the Tammy Way

To finish it off, Tammy grabbed her Mini Alphabet Dies (Item 162934) and cut out the letters “USA” from Cherry Cobbler cardstock. Simple. Bold. Punchy.

But she couldn’t stop there. She took her blending brush and added Crumb Cake ink around the edges. This gave it that perfect antique postcard vibe.

This DIY Patriotic Card Is Going in the Mail

She’s mailing it off to her brother and sister-in-law—because handmade beats Hallmark every time.

This DIY patriotic card may be a little messy, a little bold, and totally unfiltered—but hey, so is freedom.

Feeling inspired? Try this technique yourself! Just grab a block, some markers, and don’t be afraid to make a glorious inky mess.
