Matte Dots to the Rescue! Floral Washi Magic

Matte Dots to the Rescue!

If you’ve ever leaned a little too far left (or right!) while stamping a sentiment, then Matte Dots to the Rescue! is about to become your new crafty motto. Today’s project proves that even when your “thanks” isn’t perfectly straight, the card can still be absolutely stunning—with a little help from the Extraordinary Floral Washi Tape, Blooming Phrases sentiment, and of course… matte dots that hide all the evidence.

Floral Layers, Washi Wonder & a Stamping Oops (Saved by Matte Dots!)

I started this card with a cheerful, bold card base of Berry Burst (5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″, scored at 4 1/4″), the perfect backdrop for the soft watercolor look of the Extraordinary Floral Washi Tape (#165269). This tape instantly gives you a full panel of hand-painted florals without ever touching a stamp or ink pad—just peel, place, and admire your artistry. I just added a strip to the smaller piece of Basic White cardstock.

To keep the florals framed beautifully, I added a layer of Lost Lagoon cardstock (4″ x 5 1/4″) behind the washi panel. It pulls the cooler tones from the floral pattern and ties the whole card together in the most satisfying way.

The main panel is Basic White (5 1/16″ x 3 13/16″), and here’s where the fun begins. If you’ve been following along with this week’s social media theme, you already know:
Crooked sentiments happen. Matte dots fix them.

I stamped the “thanks” from the Blooming Phrases stamp set entertainment (#165523)—and friends, it came out just a touch wiggly. Not full-tilt sideways… but enough to annoy any stamper who likes her words to behave. So I leaned into the theme and let the magic happen.

A strip of White 1/4″ Ribbon (#165562) adds texture and gives the sentiment section a clean, soft border. (*This is in the Last Chance section of my store and the supply is low) Then, the hero moment: Neutral Matte Dots (#165561) placed in a perfect triangle. Suddenly, that slightly-askew “thanks” looks completely intentional—almost artistic. Matte dots really are the duct tape of cardmaking.

Matte Dots to the Rescue! A Simple Layout That Always Works

One of the best things about this card layout is how adaptable it is. You can switch the colors, change the washi tape pattern, or swap the sentiment and still get a polished, professional card every single time. The structure does the heavy lifting:

  • Berry Burst Card Base: 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″, scored at 4 1/4″
  • Lost Lagoon Layer: 4″ x 5 1/4″
  • Basic White Floral Panel: 5 1/16″ x 3 13/16″
  • Extraordinary Floral Washi Tape (#165269)
  • Blooming Phrases Stamp Set (#165523)
  • White 1/4″ Ribbon (#165562)
  • Neutral Matte Dots (#165561)

Even better—this layout gives you plenty of room to let that gorgeous washi tape shine. The florals look hand-painted, the colors blend beautifully, and the matte dots? Well… they keep your sentiment in line, literally and figuratively.

So the next time your stamping goes “a little oops,” don’t toss the panel—decorate it! Just reach for your dots, place them with confidence, and watch your card transform from “oopsie” to “ohhh yes!”

Crafting should be joyful, playful, and sometimes just a tad crooked—because that’s real life.

Don’t forget the inside of the card- get creative with your washi tape!

Until we meet again. . .
