Let’s Do Water Coloring Today Without Stamps!

Let’s Do Water Coloring and step outside the world of stamps today! This project is all about embracing your creativity, picking up a brush, and letting ink and water bring a character to life—no stamped outlines needed. That’s exactly how this adorable polar bear came together. Instead of starting with a stamp, I used a few punches as shape inspiration and sketched my own cozy winter friend onto watercolor paper. I did use the Round We Go stamp set for the snowflakes.

I chose Balmy Blue, Pretty In Pink, and Memento inks to build soft color and gentle shading. Balmy Blue was perfect for creating frosty edges around the bear, while Pretty In Pink added warmth to the cheeks and inside the ears. Those tiny touches make him look extra sweet and snuggly. Memento added definition to the eyes, nose, and smile, giving him personality without overwhelming the soft watercolor look.

Once the image dried, I layered the panel onto Real Red cardstock to make the artwork pop. The bold red adds holiday cheer while still letting the painting shine as the star of the card. From there, everything sits on a Balmy Blue card base, which ties in beautifully with the cool winter tones of the bear. Want to see how I created it? Check out the video

Let’s Do Water Coloring for Unique Handmade Art

One of my favorite parts of this project is how freeing it felt. When you’re not relying on stamps, you can create any character, expression, or scene you imagine. Watercoloring your own images invites happy accidents, artistic play, and those one-of-a-kind results that make handmade cards so special.

And because I loved this little bear so much, I didn’t stop with the card! I cut a small piece of plywood and painted a coordinating ornament using the same bear sketch. This time I swapped out the blues for creamy whites and soft browns to give him a rustic, woodsy look. The result is a sweet keepsake that pairs perfectly with the card—ideal for gifting or hanging on the holiday tree.

Painting your own images, whether on paper or wood, brings a new level of joy and originality to crafting. It’s a reminder that creativity doesn’t need boundaries… sometimes all it takes is a brush, a little ink, and the courage to try something new.

Until we meet again,
