How to Do Watercolor Stamping with Pretty Florals Stamp Set

Watercolor stamping with Pretty Florals stamp set is my new favorite way to make a mess—er, I mean create art. This week, I tried the watercolor technique Judi demonstrated in her live video, and wow—what a game-changer! It’s easy, fun, and perfect for those of us still figuring things out (like how to cut paper straight the first time).

I used the Pretty Florals stamp set and stamped the flowers in black. As the background I used Coastal Cabana, Daffodil Delight, and Strawberry Slush—because those are the colors that make me happy. Judi recommended using watercolor paper for this technique since I’m still fairly new to stamping. Good thing she handed me a piece to try—I didn’t even have to beg!

Watercolor Stamping with Pretty Florals Stamp Set: How It Works

The magic starts with a clear acrylic block. Instead of inking your stamp, you ink the block itself. I tapped Coastal Cabana, Daffodil Delight, and Strawberry Slush ink pads directly onto the block—kind of like painting with no brush.

Next, I spritzed both the block and the watercolor paper with water. Not so much that it turns into soup—just enough to let the colors blend a bit. Then, the fun part: smash the block face-down onto the paper. Yep, just press it on, give it a wiggle if you want more movement, and let those colors do their thing. When you lift the block, BOOM—instant artsy background.

Once it dried, I stamped the Pretty Florals images right on top. The layered look? Totally frame-worthy—like, hang-it-on-the-fridge-and-make-your-family-admire-it level good.

To embellish, I grabbed some items I found in the Last Chance section of Judi’s store—the 2022–2024 In Color Pearls and the Storybook Life stamp set. I love scoring a deal, especially when it gives my cards that extra flair without blowing the budget.

And just to be different, I made my card a 4-1/4″ x 4-1/4″ square. It still fits in a standard envelope and doesn’t cost extra postage—how cool is that?

If you haven’t tried this watercolor stamping technique yet, do it. Catch Judi’s replay on her YouTube channel, grab that Pretty Florals stamp set, and don’t forget to check out those Last Chance steals while you can.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have an acrylic block to clean…and another background to make.
