How do I use Pigment Sprinkles in my paper crafting? Before we discuss how to use the them, lets find out what they are. I will be referring to the pigment sprinkles (# 149663 ) that are sold by Stampin’ Up! in this article.
Our sprinkles are watercolor pigment crystals in exclusive Stampin’ Up! colors. Mix them with water to make watercolor backgrounds and washes, and use them for other watercoloring techniques. You may purchase these at My Online Store through June 2,2020 at a 30% discount!
Here are the details of what you receive when you purchase our Pigment Sprinkles;
- 6 jars–1 each of 6 colors: Bermuda Bay, Daffodil Delight, Granny Apple Green, Gorgeous Grape, Mango Melody, Melon Mambo
- 6 g in each jar
- Acid free
- Color of powder changes to correct color when water is added
Now that we know what they are,
I will share with you one way to create a watercolor background. Each time you create with pigment sprinkles the result will be uniquely different. The look will depend on how much water, how much powder, and the paper you use.
Let’s start with the type of paper. I recommend using either our Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper (#149612) or our Shimmery White Paper (#101910). Watercolor paper can withstand more water but Shimmery White holds up well also. I love the shimmery look that comes through when using the Shimmery White.
Now that you have decided which paper you will use, you need to decide which of the following two methods you wish to use;
- Spritz the paper with water, then sprinkle with pigment
- Sprinkle some pigment onto the paper then spritz the paper with water
- sprinkle the desired pigment onto the paper and use an Aqua Painter to spread the color as desired.
Here’s a video that shows you how to do the first procedure above.

The biggest tip I can give you when using these is, you need to allow time for the paper to dry. I don’t like using the heat gun unless you want to move the color. Visit here to see some more projects using our old Pigments called Brushos.
I hope I have inspired you to try this wonderful medium in your paper crafting projects. Did I answer your question on, “How do I use Pigment Sprinkles in my paper crafting?”
