Can I color my Vellum Cardstock if I don’t want it white?

Can I color my Vellum Cardstock if I don’t want it white? You are wanting to create a softness by using vellum on your project but don’t want to leave it white. The answer is yes, you can color it! You can choose to color it with a variety of mediums. Let’s check the possibilities!

I reccommend using Vellum Cardstock (101856) over regular vellum when wanting to color it. It is thicker and holds up better than thinner vellum when colored. It is also less likely to tear when using some of the mediums. Cardstock vellum also has a tendency to wrinkle less when using water based products.

The first medium you may choose is colored pencils (#141709 or #149014). You can color directly on the vellum with your pencil or you may choose to use your Blender Pen (#102845) for a more subtle/blended look. Be careful when using pencils because it is easy to make indentations in your cardstock vellum if you have fine points on your pencils. Sometimes, I like the texture these indentations make but it will depend on your image.

You can also use your Stampin’ Write Markers on the vellum. I prefer to color the back of the vellum when using this method. The ink strokes don’t seem to show up as much when you color on the back. You also want to remeber that the ink takes longer to dry when using vellum.

In today’s project I used Stampin’ Blends to color my Cardstock Vellum.

When using Stampin’ Blends you can color on the front or back. I colored the back to create more subtle colors. I colored the stems with Shaded Spruce Dark. Wanting to mimmick the flowers in the Flowers For Every Season Designer Series Paper (152486), I colored the tips of the flower buds using the Poppy Parade Light Stampin’ Blend and towards the bud centers I used Poppy Parade Dark Stampin’ Blend (combo pack #154958) .

I hope the next time you are using vellum in a project you try using one of the methods I shared today to give it a bit of color!
