A colorful fall card using the thumping technique

A colorful fall card is essential as the days grows shorter and the air turns crisp. Soon, the vibrant colors of autumn will begin to painting the landscape. I wanted to capture this beautiful transition on a card. By using the “thumping” technique—a perfect way to reflect the ever-changing hues of fall. For this project, I used the Leaf Collection background stamps (163610) to create a stunning display of autumn leaves.

A colorful fall card

To begin, I inked up my stamp with Daffodil Delight Classic Ink. This sunny yellow serves as the perfect base. It’s mimicking the golden tones you see as the leaves first start to change. I was wanting to really capture the essence of fall. So, I took Old Olive, Cajun Craze, Pumpkin Pie, and Cherry Cobbler Stampin’ Write Markers and began “thumping” them onto the inked leaves. This technique involves randomly tapping the markers onto the stamp. This creates a speckled, multi-colored effect that mimics the natural variegation found in autumn leaves.

A colorful fall card comes to life when you do this next step.

Spritzing the stamp with water next allows the colors to merge and flow into one another. This small step helps to blend the colors, This is just like the gradual transformation of leaves from green to fiery reds, oranges, and deep burgundies. The result was a breathtaking array of fall foliage, each leaf unique and full of depth. I did this card Live on You Tube. You can watch it HERE.

This card is a tribute to the beauty of autumn capturing the moments when the world is ablaze with color. The “thumping” technique, combined with a light spritz of water, brings these leaves to life. It’s a way that truly reflects the season’s magic. Whether you’re looking to celebrate the changing seasons or simply want to try a new technique. This project is a wonderful way to bring the essence of fall into your crafting.

Don’t let the beauty of autumn pass you by. Try the “thumping” technique for yourself and watch as your leaves come alive with the colors of the season.

Until we meet again. . .
