Sunset Cabin Card with Ink Blending Magic

Nothing beats the feeling of crafting a card that captures the calm of a fall evening — when the sun dips low, the sky glows with fiery color, and the air feels just cool enough for a cozy cabin moment. This week’s project brings that feeling to life with soft ink blending and silhouette stamping.

The Woodland Scenery stamp set is the star here, paired with warm, rich ink colors that create a stunning backdrop for the little cabin and its curious deer visitor. The beauty of this design is that it looks advanced, but it’s totally achievable with a few blending tricks!

SUnset Cabin Card with Ink Blending Magic: Creating the Glow

To create that seamless sunset sky, start with your blending brushes and a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock. I began with Crushed Curry, adding a light layer across the center to set the warmth. Next, I worked in Pumpkin Pie toward the horizon, blending softly where the two colors meet. The top corners fade to Misty Moonlight, giving the illusion of twilight meeting dusk.

Once your background is beautifully blended, stamp the cabin, trees, and deer using Memento Tuxedo Black Ink. I heat set mine to ensure crisp edges and added a touch of sponged Smoky Slate at the bottom to ground the scene.

This simple layering of colors and silhouettes gives the impression of depth — like the sun is truly setting behind the trees. It’s one of those cards that makes you pause and think, “Wow, I made that.”

Card Measurements & Supplies

  • Card Base: Crumb Cake – 8 ½” x 5 ½”, scored at 4 ¼”
  • Layer 1: Misty Moonlight – 3 ¾” x 4 ¾”
  • Layer 2: Basic White – 3 5/8” x 4 5/8”
  • Top Layer: Very Vanilla – 4 ½” x 3 ½” (ink blended panel)
  • Inks: Crushed Curry, Pumpkin Pie, Misty Moonlight, Crumb Cake, Memento Tuxedo Black
  • Tools: Blending Brushes, Heat Tool, Black WOW Embossing Powder
  • Stamp Set: Woodland Scenery

The best part? Every background turns out a little different — just like real sunsets. Try varying your color order or intensity to give each card its own unique glow.
