Step-by-Step Tutorial: Creating a Beach Scene with Ink Blending & Watercolor Pencils
1️⃣ Ink Blending the Background
Start by creating a soft beachy gradient using your blending brushes:
- Sky: Lightly blend Boho Blue ink in circular motions at the top leaving some white showing through. I faded this to the edges of the cardstock.
- Sand: Use Crumb Cake ink at the bottom, gradually fading toward the center.
- Pro Tip: Work in layers! Light pressure and small circular strokes will help you avoid harsh lines. Layer your color lightly until you get the depth you want. You can always add color, but you can’t always take it away.
- Add the sentiment: “I love you more than… French fries!” in the upper right corner using Memento Ink.
- Using the memento ink, stamp the flock of birds in the upper left corner.
2️⃣ Stamping & Coloring the Focal Image
- Stamp the seagull holding a french fry and a french fry box onto Basic White cardstock scrap.
- Use watercolor pencils to shade the image, blending colors for a soft effect.
- Stamp & color several french fry boxes for added fun!
3️⃣ Assembling the Card
- Adhere the ink-blended background onto the Boho Blue mat.
- Layer the Boho Blue mat onto your card base using Stampin’ Dimensionals.
- Pop up the seagull and french fry box with Stampin’ dimensionals.
Beginner Mistakes & Quick Fixes
Streaky Ink Blending? Use light circular motions and build color in layers.
Harsh Watercolor Pencil Lines? Light pressure & blending with a colorless blender pencil works wonders!
Pilling Cardstock? Don’t rub so hard with the Blender Pen. I use this very Lightly as mentioned in my You Tube Video
