Shake It ‘Til You Make It: Birthday Card Edition

Shake It ‘Til You Make It—today’s project isn’t just a card, it’s a mini birthday bash you can hold in your hand. We’re talking cupcakes, confetti, color, and the kind of sparkle that makes you want to put on a party hat. Shaker cards have that magical “ooooooh” factor that makes the recipient instantly grin… and shake it. Repeatedly.

This one’s a cupcake celebration, thanks to the With You In Mind stamp set and the Stylish Shapes Dies. I cranked up the happy with Melon Mambo, Coastal Cabana, and crisp Basic White, then tossed in iridescent dots and shaker bits for maximum festive vibes.

And here’s the best part—you can swap out the cupcakes for any theme: balloons, candles, or even a sassy “you survived another year” sentiment. Once you learn the basic shaker technique, you’ll be shaking up birthdays, anniversaries, and Tuesdays… because why not?

Shake It ‘Til You Make It: Party Card How-To

Start with a Basic Black card base cut to 5 1/2″ x 11″ and score it in half. Layer on a Melon Mambo mat (5 1/4″ x 4″)—because nothing says “party” like hot pink. Next up, a Basic White panel (5″ x 3 3/4″) embossed with a playful dot pattern that basically screams, “We brought balloons!”

The shaker window is where the magic happens. Using two Stylish Shapes Dies, cut a frame, then attach a window sheet to the back. Build a foam adhesive strip wall (think of it as your party fence) to keep all the Loose Shaker Elements contained—stars, sequins, and tiny iridescent goodies. Before sealing it up, add your shaker mix and a stamped cupcake inside so every shake reveals a sweet surprise.

On the front, I stamped cupcakes in Coastal Cabana and Melon Mambo, with the sentiment in Memento Tuxedo Black. For the finishing touch, Sunny Day Iridescent Dots bring that “disco ball sparkle” without stealing the show from the shaker.
