Pinwheel with Surprise: A Birthday Card That Pops with Personality! Are you tired of the same old fold? It’s time to shake things up with a Pinwheel with Surprise card that delivers major “WOW” factor! Today’s birthday card features soft pastel hues, an interactive twist, and just the right amount of flair. This card is perfect for the next special someone on your list. I used the With You in Mind stamp set (164747) along with the Wildflower Birthday 12″ x 12″ Specialty Designer Series Paper with stickers (166620) to make a cheerful, layered card that’s sure to stand out.

The card base is Pool Party, which sets the tone with a cool, fresh feel. Soft Sea Foam and Pretty in Pink mats add dimension, while die-cut embellishments from the DSP pack take all the guesswork out of decorating. You know I love a shortcut that still looks fancy!
A Pinwheel with Surprise That’s Easier Than It Looks

This project starts with a 6″ x 6″ piece of Designer Series Paper scored at 1 ½” on all four sides. With a few strategic cuts and folds, the pinwheel design comes to life—and yes, the surprise reveal when you open it is just as fun as it sounds! I kept the card in a vertical (portrait) orientation to give it that traditional birthday-card feel, but with a fabulous twist.
Here are the cardstock sizes you’ll need:
- Card Base (Pool Party): 8 ½” x 5 ½”, scored at 4 ¼”
- DSP (Pinwheel Base): 6″ x 6″, scored at 1 ½” on all sides
- Soft Sea Foam Mat: 3 15/16″ x 3 15/16″
- Pretty in Pink Mat: 3 ⅜” x 3 ⅜”
- Basic White (Sentiment Panel): 2 15/16″ x 2 15/16″
This Pinwheel with Surprise card is not only fun to make, it’s a joyful experience to give. I’ve included three images in this post so you can see the card closed, opened, and the inside reveal. Want to follow along and make your own? Watch the full video over on my YouTube channel!
