Celebrating Flag Day with a red, white, and blue card for a friend today. We celebrate this day, June 14, which is the anniversary of the adoption of the Stars and Stripes as the official US flag in 1777.
I wanted to create this thank you card for a friend who’s husband was in the military. Not wanting to do an actual flag, I used the colors to create my card.
Red, white, and blue
Are my main colors but I often think of gold when thinking of our flag. I also think of daisies and sunflowers as all American. The sunflower image from the Jar of Flowers (152515) stamp set fit nicely on the mats I cut to use. I created the arched, decorative edge by using the Curvy Dies (154319)
I colored my flower images using the; Real Red, Moonlight Madness, Daffodil Delight , and Cinnamon Cider Stampin’ Blends. I know that coloring the greenery blue is out of the ordinary but it works for this card. I added some interest to the smaller Misty Moonlight panel by embossing it with the Greenery Mini Embossing Folder (152716). The blue Rhinestone Jewels are from the Holiday Basic Rhinestone Jewels pack.
I wanted to carry the theme to the inside panel of this “Z Fold” card. I stamped a portion of the image in the upper left hand corner and colored it too. Wanting the sentiment to pop, I stamped it using Real Red.
As I said, patriotic cards don’t have to be all stars and stripes. You can adapt just about any stamp set to be patriotic just by using the color scheme of red, white, and blue. I hope you enjoy celebrating this day that celebrates the adoption of our flag.
