Bring Your Embossed Sunflowers to Life with Ink and Brushes

Sunflowers have a way of brightening any day—and this week’s project shows how you can make them truly glow. Using the Sunflower 3-D Embossing Folder, a few ink pads, and your Blending Brushes, you’ll create a soft, radiant background that looks like it came straight from a summer sunset.

This technique is simple but packs a serious WOW factor. Whether you’re sending a cheerful hello or a heartfelt “thinking of you,” this card design is sure to impress.

Bring Your Embossed Sunflowers to Life with a Touch of Color

Start with a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock and your favorite Blending Brushes. I used Crushed Curry, Pumpkin Pie, Pecan Pie, and Cherry Cobbler—a warm, cozy palette that transitions beautifully from yellow to deep red. Blend the colors across your cardstock, overlapping slightly to create that seamless ombré glow.

Once your colors are blended, let the cardstock dry completely before the next step. (Trust me, your embossing will turn out crisper if you wait!) Next, place your piece inside the Sunflower 3-D Embossing Folder and run it through your Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine. When you remove it, the texture will already be gorgeous—but here’s where the magic happens.

Take your White Craft Ink Pad and gently brush (rub) it across the raised areas. The pigment ink catches the tops of the embossed petals and centers, adding highlights that make your sunflowers look almost lit from within. Because White Craft Ink is thicker and dries a bit slower, give it a little extra time before assembling your card.

Finishing Touches That Shine

Layer your embossed panel onto Crushed Curry and Pecan Pie cardstock for a frame that complements those autumn tones. Add a sentiment—I chose “Thinking of You” from the Blooming Phrases Photopolymer Stamp Set (#165523)—and finish it off with a few 2025–2027 In-Color Flat Pearls (#165192).

This card may look like it took forever, but it’s one of those quick to create, stunning to display designs that’s perfect for birthdays, encouragement, or just because.
