National Hot Toddy Day is today! I’ve heard the phrase growing up but never actually knew what it was. I imagined it was a cup of hot apple cider with a cinnamon stick in it.
Imagine a drink that will warm you up from the inside out. Craving a festive cocktail? The you’ll want to celebrate National Hot Toddy Day today!
This warm drink is created in a kettle with various kinds of alcohol (usually rum, brandy, or whiskey), along with honey, lemon, water, and a cinnamon stick. Most enjoy it by a fire. I imagine a beautiful day/night with snow falling outside. This toasty drink is even rumored to relieve cold and flu symptoms, but I’ll leave that part up to you.
National Hot Toddy Day, how did the drink come about?
I understand it began in the 1700’s. A warm drink made with whiskey . Created by Scottish doctore, it was a treatment for a sore throat and congestion.
I read that in 1775 the hot toddy arrived in America. American soldiers fighting in the Revolutionary War used rum and brandy instead of whiskey.
Hot Toddy acclaimed as a ‘Cure-All’ in 1837 when “The Burlington Free Press” published an article calling the hot toddy a cure-all drink.
The earliest known record of a hot toddy recipe is said to appear in “The Bartender’s Guide”, written by Jerry Thomas in 1862
My husband’s grandfather gave me a warm cup of blackberry brandy once. We had been out snowmobiing and he told me it would warm me up and keep me from getting a sore throat. I guess he knew what he was talking about!
In honor of Hot Toddy Day I am sharing this card I made during my Facebook live yesterday. You can see how I created it here.
I used the Brewed For You stamp set to create it as we celebrate a friend’s birthday. You will want to check out how I create the coctail glasses from the beer mug!
Here’s the inside of the card.
Look at the dimension on this card!! Don’t forget you can purchase the products I used at my Online Store here!
Will you be celebrating National Hot Toddy Day?
Until we meet again. . .

My grandfather was a strong believer in hot toddy’s for dealing with a cold. I have tried it (now that I’m older) I don’t know if it really works or you just sleep through the symptoms but it sure does warm you up. LOL
