Techniques can help with boredom!

Techniques can help with boredom of staying indoors. Techniques are fun, relaxing, and often unpredictable. There are no mistakes when creating with techniques because in most cases, each try results in a different look.

I have been playing around with some water coloring techniques this past week. Let me share one with you now.

This picture shows the result of water coloring using an aqua painter with Highland Heather, Gorgeous Grape, and Pear Pizzaz inks. Using the Flowering Foils Specialty Designer Series Paper made doing the technique quick and easy. Members of my HapBEE Stampers Community Page received a free class last week showing how to create this gorgeous look.

Flowering Foils Designer Series Paper

I did a section of the paper when demonstrating the technique in the class. Sharing my tips of water coloring included how to load the ink achieving different depths of color. One tip I will share with you is not to keep layering color on. Let your ink dry, then add more ink if you think it is needed. By letting the ink dry you avoid over-saturation of the paper and you let the water do the work for you. I couldn’t wait to finish the entire sheet when the class finished. This technique can help with boredom and relaxation!

Flowering Foils Designer Series Paper

I cut the paper 9, 4 x 3 1/8″ pieces. Every piece of this 12″x 12″ Designer Series Paper was used. The 3/4″ strips decorated the inside of the cards.

I used Pear Pizzazz, Crumb Cake, Purple Posy, and Gorgeous Grape as card bases and mats. Achieve a variety of looks just by changing up which papers you combine on your cards.

Don’t you just love this water coloring look? I hope it inspires you to try it and see personally, how techniques can help with boredom.

ICS Bolg Hop, Thinking of you, Painted Poppies & Honey Bee

The ICS Blog Hop is bringing you Thinking of You projects this month. I am using the Peaceful Poppies Suite (153938) for this this memory page. The colors in the Peaceful Poppies Designer Series Paper (DSP) (151324) is fitting for just about any picture you put onto this page. I have a few pictures of my grandchildren playing last spring that will be perfect!

Painted Poppies Suite

I used Old Olive as my page base then cut 2″ strips of the desired DSP pattern I wanted to use. To save on the DSP I cut the 2 1/2″ piece from where the black mat was going to cover.

The flowers are the Poppy Moments Dies (151594) which can be bundled with the Peaceful Moments stamp set (151595) (Bundle#-153824). The flower bases are vellum that I colored on the back with Gorgeous Grape & Poppy Parade ink using our sponge brayers. I cut the detailed, outline die from the coordinating cardstock.

The swirly die that the title is layered onto is from the Painted Labels Die (151605) which can be bundled with the Painted Poppies stamp set(151599) (Bundle#-153827). The verse is found in the Peaceful Moments stamp set. Don’t pass this stamp set up if you scrapbook, there are a few verses perfect for memory pages!

You may be thinking, “But Judi. I thought this was supposed to be a thinking of you project.” In my mind it is because when we sit down and flip through the pages we can’t help but “thinking of each other” and the moments we spent together.

Let’s see what June is sharing with us this month.

Stampers By The Dozen are doing non-holiday this month.

The Stampers By The Dozen are doing non-holiday for our Blog Hop this month. Soon Christmas will be over and you will be looking for some fun projects to create. This baby card uses a combination of products from our Holiday catalog and Annual catalog. The Buffalo check stamp set will be held over, boy am I happy!! I love that you can create different looking plaids with this background stamp. The Animal Outing stamp set can be used for a wide variety of cards (this is a must-have in my opinion!).

Images © 1990 – 2018 Stampin’ Up! ®

This card is a special fold card. I cut my cardstock at 6 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ and scored at 2″. I then adhered a circle to the right edge of the card base. Don’t you just love the plaid background I made? I used a combination of inks and Blends on a 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ Whisper White cardstock to create it.

Here’s a detailed look of the circle element.

Images © 1990 – 2018 Stampin’ Up! ®

I used Memento ink to stamp the kangaroo & verses from the Animal Outing stamp set. I then colored the kangaroo with the following Stampin’ Blends; Light Pool Party & Crumb Cake, Petal Pink, & Bronze. I then fussy cut the image and around the verses.

Just like a baby is a happy surprise, so is the inside of this card.

Images © 1990 – 2018 Stampin’ Up! ®

This giraffe is popping in to say welcome too! I have left the inside of the card empty so I can personalize it when I give it.

Santa’s Workshop Suite for an adorable sampler

I have your answer to decorating those tiny spaces this holiday season, this adorable framed sampler using the Santa’s Workshop Suite. This home decor piece measures 8″x8″ it also makes a perfect hostess gift this holiday season.

In the first square I used the Santa Claus compass and added a banner using the Santa’s Workshop Specialty Designer Series Paper with the red & white stripes that is flocked (147809). We colored the rhinestones using the Dark Shaded Spruce Stampin’ Blend, added dots on the label with a white gel pen and added the Santa’s Workshop Enamel shaped trees.

Images © 1990 – 2018 Stampin’ Up! ®

The next square has Santa checking his list. We colored the snowflakes with our Frost White Shimmer Paint (147046) and an Aqua Painter and added a Rhinestone Jewel.

Images © 1990 – 2018 Stampin’ Up! ®

The next square has a playful elf pulling a wagon of packages. We designed our own package wrap using Stampin’ Blends. I added an enamel bow to the top package and enamel snowflakes.

Images © 1990 – 2018 Stampin’ Up! ®

The final square has Mrs. Claus. She looks like she is giggling at the elf running with the packages. I added a small red enamel dot to the holly leaves.

Images © 1990 – 2018 Stampin’ Up! ®

I used a combination of products in the suite along with several of our Stampin’ Blends to color the images. All of the Designer Paper we used is from the Santa’s Workshop Specialty Designer Series Paper. This playful paper has flocking on one side of  4 sheets which adds texture and interest to your projects. This project is perfect for a beginner stamper as well as novice.

Here is the final project.

Colour Challenge for Stampers By The Dozen October Hop

I love trying new color combinations and the color challenge for this month’s Stampers By The Dozen is a new combination for me. The colors we are to use are; Poppy Parade, Pumpkin Pie, So Saffron, and Pool Party. While this isn’t a combination of colors that I have thought of, I love them together! In fact, I love it SO MUCH, I will be sharing a few other projects with it this week!

I chose the Country Home stamp set,and the Tin Tile Dynamic Impressions Embossing Folder for my challenge card. I used a combination of our Stampin’ Write Markers and Stampin’ Blends to color the images.

Images © 1990 – 2018 Stampin’ Up! ®

In this close-up of the floral image you can see that I used, So Saffron  and Poppy Parade Stampin’ Write Markers to color the cotton and berry images. I used Pumpkin Pie and Pool Party, light and dark Stampin’ Blends to color the leaves and remaining floral images, and the milk can. And do you see those glitter dot embellishments? They are our the Glitter Enamel Dots (146934)! I love how the Melon Mambo dots take on the Poppy Parade color on this card.

Images © 1990 – 2018 Stampin’ Up! ®

Is it a combination you would have chosen on your own? Leave a comment and let me know. Personally, I have a tendency of choosing 3 colors, but these four colors work!

Let’s see what Susan has done with the color challenge!

Pair Perennial Birthday with Frosted Floral Specialty Paper for a beautiful fall card

I paired the Perennial Birthday stamp set with our Frosted Floral Specialty Designer Series Paper (147800)for a beautiful fall floral card for this month’s Stampers By the Dozen Blog Hop. Let me say, this specialty paper is absolutely beautiful! Every sheet has a pearl finish, on both sides, that adds an elegance that you must see! There are several different floral patterns as well as stripes, patterns, and leaves. It pairs beautifully with the coordinating First Frost stamp set but I am sure that you can get more use out of sets in your collection because of all the different florals in it. I chose the Perennial Birthday stamp set rather than just reaching for the coordinating First Frost (148420)stamp set. The result is this beautiful special fold  card.

Images © 1990 – 2018 Stampin’ Up! ®

This card isn’t just any card. The soft Suede striped layer is actually a mini card adorned with a Pearlized Lace Doilie (146936), a Pear Pizzazz leaf (punch 144667) and Mossy Meadow sprigs (punch 148012).

Images © 1990 – 2018 Stampin’ Up! ®

I added an assortment of our Share What You Love Artisan Pearls (146927) which coordinate beautifully with the Frosted Floral Specialty Paper. I just love how many of the products in the Annual Catalog coordinate with products in the Holiday Catalog, don’t you?

Images © 1990 – 2018 Stampin’ Up! ®

The Blackberry Bliss card base brings a true richness to this card and is a perfect color for fall. I hope you are enjoying this month’s Blog Hop with all the gorgeous fall floral projects. Let’s hop over to Susan and see her project.

An interesting article from Business Insider

I jumped on my computer this morning and this article from Business Insider caught my eye and I thought it sounded interesting so I decided to click on the link. I want you to know, I don’t do this very often as I try to be focused when doing my computer work. I am so glad I did because it brought to mind things that we do here in the USA that isn’t done elsewhere in the world. I got to thinking,” How did these things come to happen if they aren’t done anywhere else?”

I have never done this on my blog before but I thought you may enjoy to ponder on a few of these things today……

Here are a few of the items that got me thinking:

#1: Throwing a Baby Shower: they aren’t done elsewhere and are considered rude.

Does your family or friends throw them?

#2: Chatting with strangers and making small talk. Really?

I don’t think I could pass a stranger and not say hi. Or how about standing in line someplace and not striking up a conversation?

#3: Drinking huge cups of coffee while walking around.

I’m not a coffee drinker, but why is this strange?

If you’d like to read on the 24 things that we do that the world views as strange click on this link:

https://www.businessinsider.com/things-normal-in-the-us-but-considered-weird-2018-8.

I hope you don’t mind me sharing these things that aren’t considered normal and I know you come here to be inspired so I thought I would share one of the projects from my No-Line stamping watercolor class that I held on Friday evening. We had SO MUCH fun!

This is the bird image from the “Better With You” stamp set. It was the last image that students painted and I believe their favorite.

I started them with a smaller, cowboy boots image, then the flower image from the “Better With You” stamp set, and we ended with this bird image.

Each students image was unique. I loved watching them a they discovered what worked best for them in water coloring the images.

If you’d like to see a few of the other images visit my Facebook Page or Instagram.

DO you think the world views learning how to watercolor using stamps is strange?

Enjoy your weekend!

My teachers assistant

I have had a teachers assistant at my classes this month, it is my 5 year old granddaughter. I have had the joy of having my two grandchildren, Samantha 5 & Hunter,2, for a sleepover with grammy for 3 days which fell on two of my satellite stamp class dates.

Samantha loves to craft and is always wanting to go to the Stamp Studio to stamp and create. When she saw I was putting together my July class kits she wanted to help. She helped me cut out dies using the Big Shot and stuffed the envelopes with all the materials. Is was fun to watch her as she organized everything on her own. What was Hunter doing while we were prepping? He was either taking his nap, playing with the school bus or helping us.

They both got to attend the classes too! Sunday I had my monthly Coffee & A Card Class at the local Panera Bread. We went a little early to set up for everyone. They helped me put out the place mats and make sure we had enough chairs for everyone. Samantha was a great teachers assistant as helped instruct the gals and stamped her own card. Here’s Samantha’s card.

She was SO proud of her card!

She even wrote this inside: ” Happy Birthday U.S.A.

From Sam”

Here’s my sample:

We took my July 3/$10 class to Tinley Park, and Sam reminded everyone to be careful, and which stamp pad they were to use and how to stamp.

Samantha reminded me that she wants to be a teacher and a mom when she grows up, this was great practice for her.

I really enjoyed having a teachers assistant and hope Samantha is able to help again soon.

Card Re-Do for the Stampers By The Dozen July Hop

We were asked to go into our older card samples to find a card  to re-do for the Stampers By The Dozen blog hop this month. This wasn’t an easy feat since most of my older work is in storage since our move.  It was fun going through my card samples, this particular card reminded me of the first cruise and big vacation we took as a family. I bought this set to do my memory album of this vacation of many firsts.

I was able to find this card from one of my first beginners classes, this card taught them about solid image stamps and using a mono chromatic color scheme. The Bon Voyage stamp set and Bordering Blue cardstock and ink were used for this card. How many of you still have some of the retired Bordering Blue? I do!

Now for the re-do card. . . .

While I didn’t use any Designer Series Paper on my  card sample card, I decided to use some  on my updated,re-do card, I love, Love, LOVE the Broadway Bound specialty designer series paper (#146277)! Why? I love the bright colors on one side and then the beautiful black and gold foil designs on the other. I used the, A Little Wild stamp set (w-#143671, c-#144344) as my focal point. Who could resist this adorable elephant?. . . especially when it is Lipstick Red!

You just might be thinking,”Judi, this card has more layers than your original.” Let me go through how I looked at my original card; bottom layer- the ships, second layer, the words, the ticket the embellishment.

I loved this card so much that I decided to use it at my Hostess Card Clubs this month. It is easy to create and you can’t help but smile when you see it. Everyone had a different number of balloons to fussy cut as they are from the Broadway Bound specialty designer series paper. If you’d like more info on how you can learn new tips, tricks and techniques while spending time with others who love to stamp send me an email.

If you are having a creative block why not reach into your card stash and re-do it? You might be amazed at how fun it is to do this!

Let’s see what Karie and the others have re-done!

Varied Vases for Coffee and a Card

I am held my Coffee and a Card Sunday morning and have chosen to use the Varied Vases stamp set for our card. I hold this class the first Sunday of the month at a local coffee shop. We have several people attend to enjoy chatting & stamping over a cup of coffee. We love getting to know each other better every time we get together. Some of the gals arrive a little early for breakfast. We have also had others ask what we are doing, some even sit down and join us!

This is the card we will be making today. It uses So Saffron as the base, Whisper White, Granny Apple Green Designer Series Paper from the Brights paper stack. They will all enjoy the reminder of how to do the split ribbon technique.

This set was designed by one of our Million Dollar Achievers, Mary Fish. I love the fact that there is also a coordinating punch, which when you purchase together in the bundle you save 20%.

Here is my sample of the card participants created.

I had the joy of having Samantha & Hunter as helpers for my class.Samantha even stamped the card along with the gals.

When we got home she wanted to write inside, it says: “I love you. Happy Birthday to the U.S.A. From Samantha” She wrote MOM inside because she said mom has to give it to the U.S.A.
